Critical habitats detection – Nigeria

Description

Infrastructure and transportation will come in direct conflict with valuable and scarce natural habitats. A cost- and time-efficient way of locating, assessing, and monitoring important natural habitats utilising satellites, which can in part replace costly and time consuming manned ship missions.

Satellites can be used to map natural habitats over and under water. Seagrass, mangroves, and near surface coral reefs, are all providing necessary services such as habitats and storm protection. Planning- and implementation processes that include site screening by satellites can reduce both initial costs and future reputational risks.
